“He . . presented Himself alive . . by many infallible proofs.” Acts 1:3 NKJV
“The greatest infallible truth imaginable is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
My thoughts today are about “infallible truth.”
Not everything that parades today as true is actually truth. Some things posed as truths are speculation – what people wish were true, or choose to accept as true. That’s because people are fallible, subject to error and failure, and their knowledge and understanding are limited. The Bible says, “Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see everything with a perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me now.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 NLT. “Partial and incomplete” is an accurate description; make sure the part you know is what God declared to be eternally true.
You may not have perfect knowledge in everything, but you can have confident knowledge in what God says is true. The wise thing is to know the difference between what you know and what you think you know. Be certain of the first, realistic about the latter. You can be certain that God’s Word is infallible truth. You rest your eternal soul on that reality.
“For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true, (if) every man (is) a liar.” Romans 3:3-4 NKJV. People do not choose what they believe; individuals choose who they believe and that determines what they believe. I choose to believe God, and that means I choose to believe what God says is truth.
Being infallible requires someone or something to be “absolutely trustworthy, incapable of error or failure.” How much of what you know, or the people you know, or you yourself, could be described accurately as infallible? You must decide what you are willing to believe is infallible truth. That is the only thing you can confidently build your life and faith upon.
I think this is where life and faith begins . . this weekend we rejoice in the greatest infallible truth imaginable – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul described his conviction this way, “I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Peter . . to the twelve (disciples) . . to more than five hundred at once . . to James . . to all the apostles, and last of all appeared to me also.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-7 NIV. See 1 John 1:1-4 NKJV. Everything about your salvation is validated by the infallible truth of Jesus’ death and resurrection, “according to the Scriptures.”
Writing years afterward, Luke states this great truth matter-of-factly, “(Jesus) presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs.” Acts 1:3 NKJV. The resurrection of Jesus presents you with somewhat of a dilemma. It is no more possible to be neutral about the actual, literal resurrection of Jesus, than to be neutral about whether Jesus is the Son of God or not. If He was crucified and raised from the dead, as He claimed to be; then He truly is the Son of God, as He claims to be. Your salvation and hope of eternal life rests upon the infallible truth of resurrection. See Romans 10:9-10NKJV. “If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile.” 1 Corinthians 15:16-23 NKJV. My faith has not been futile; it remains the comforting hope and abiding strength of my soul.
My prayer for you today is that you rest and rejoice in His resurrection.
